Teaching in Atlanta

Directing is one of many ways I love to tell stories.

Shaping the action around the words with a strong vision and breathing life into the text is exhilarating.

And the best part is that it doesn't happen alone.

Directing is most interesting to me when it's a collaboration between all the elements of performance, scenic design, costuming, and engineers of light and sound.

My Philosophy
My philosophy as a director follows my philosophy as a mental health counselor:
a framework of gestalt and feminist approaches, looking at how each choice a character makes leads to the next beat, tracking who holds the power and how it shifts moment to moment.
My Approach
When working with a client in a mental health setting, it’s my job to watch, listen, and ask questions to help them realize emotional growth and make better choices.
As a director I do the same, knowing where I hope the performer will arrive as the character in a certain beat while asking questions to help them understand the path forward.

My Goals for Development
This MFA program at UA is such a great fit with my theatrical goals in directing because of its broad and eclectic focus on directing, arts management, dramaturgy, research, and stage management.
This broad focus of the program greatly excites me, especially the chance to study and practice these diverse fundamentals of theatre on stage and in the classroom as both a student and an instructor.
